Runes

This system unlocks after the rune quest during Act II.

Your goal is to use the best combos for each situation.

Runes: Beginner

When you reach Act II, continue the quests until you unlock the rune system. Equip the 3 indicated runes and keep them together so the combo stays active — you gain +1 to portal kill count.

Runes: Intermediate

If you have diamonds to spend on upgrades, I strongly recommend buying 3/6 PRE runes first, then 3/9 rune slots, then going back to PRE runes until 6/6. Note: they must stay together in the same combo (6/6) to grant "20 Plunder / 20% offline gain / 200 ATK / +2 portal kill count".

Your best early-game gem investment is runes: buy PRE runes (6/6) first, then unlock slots with RUNE unlock / socket unlock (9/9).

The tabs · Runes: Hardcore

Getting to know the tabs:

  • 1° RUNES — Where you place runes; when you activate a correct combo, you gain your bonuses.
  • 2° MERGE — Where you improve runes; each upgrade costs a certain amount.
  • 3° RECIPES — All recipes are listed here; when you unlock a combo, you can see what stats/buffs it grants.

When the second rune combo unlocks, equip the base runes from the quest to gain +3 portal kill count. Then focus on duplicates to level them up for better equipped bonuses. This guide lists where runes drop and how many you need to upgrade — always upgrade at 100% success when possible: runes are rare, and losing a pack to RNG feels awful.
